Three Real New Year’s Resolutions for Real Parents

News flash: New Year’s resolutions don’t work! I don’t know about you, but I’ve set them for myself in the past and failed every time. In fact, research says that less than 10% of New Year’s resolutions are actually achieved. So, what am I doing writing about New Year’s resolutions if they don’t work? Well, as a parent, I’m wonderful at guilt tripping myself and questioning everything I do with my six-year-old mini cyclone. So, this year, I thought I’d talk about some different kinds of resolutions. Forget the January 1 promises of losing weight, exercising more and swearing less … Read More

Outdoor Christmas Activities For The School Holidays

Here in Queensland, it’s the last week of school – and for three weeks already, my daughter has been asking me what we will be doing over the school holidays! I’m also asking myself… Sadly, we will not be holidaying in Vanuatu. Playing with your child when you don’t want to play

“MUM! Let’s play chasey.” “MUM! Jump on the trampoline with me!” “MUM! If you don’t play hide and seek, you can never have coffee again.” “MUM! I’ll pretend I’m a cat, and you pretend you’re mum.” Sometimes, I just don’t want to play. Scratch that, about 98% of the time, I don’t want to play! Every day, usually multiple times, my six-year-old daughter demands I play some kind of (often baffling) game with her, and all I want to do is stamp my feet and cry, “I DON’T WANT TO!” Apart from the fact this is not exactly setting a … Read More

Tips and ideas for painting your cubby

Our cubbies are delivered unpainted, and we strongly recommend painting or staining soon after assembly to protect your cubby from the weather. It will also make it look even more amazing and personalise it to your family’s tastes. We recommend painting before the cubby is installed if possible. This will save you time and be easier because you don’t need to worry about things like cutting in and getting into awkward spaces! If you don’t have time or room to paint everything before hand, we suggest at least painting: the roof battens (harder to do when the roofing is on!), … Read More
