Outdoor Christmas Activities For The School Holidays

Here in Queensland, it’s the last week of school – and for three weeks already, my daughter has been asking me what we will be doing over the school holidays! I’m also asking myself… Sadly, we will not be holidaying in Vanuatu. We also won’t be camping (too hot!), spending endless days relaxing on the beach (we live in the sticks and everywhere is on fire) or having a big Christmas do with family (they’re all interstate). I am, however, betting on winning that Gold Coast townhouse I bought a raffle ticket for, which will be drawn on Christmas Eve. … Read More

Save yourself some present-buying stress this Christmas!

“MUM! DAD! Is that my Christmas present?” We’ve all been there. (At least, I hope we all have …) It’s five weeks before Christmas, the kids have been searching the house for 45 weeks, trying to sniff out their Christmas booty, until EUREKA! They’ve found your cunningly clever Christmas-present hiding spot (it’s always at the top of a cupboard, isn’t it?). Sigh. And that’s just ONE annoying bit about Christmas-present buying. Kids need unstructured playtime

Another school holidays have come to an end. How was yours? Busy? School holidays for this generation of kids are a very busy time. Whether it be pre-planned family holidays or scheduled outings and commitments, it seems each day is filled to the brim with activity. The need and the pressure to keep the kids “entertained” is high. Think back to your own childhood. What were your school holidays like? I remember a few weeks of just hanging around. We relaxed, played with our few toys, our siblings and our friends. We read books, went on walks, off on our … Read More

Working from home during the school holidays

It was such a wonderful dream … we’d start our own business selling children’s cubby houses, and I’d be able to stay at home with the kids.  I’d play games with the kids, clean, have wonderful long walks with our dog, have a lovely meal on the table each night AND provide superb customer service for our customers. Yup, that was a great dream … In reality it’s more like I was a clown juggling in a circus … the kids getting louder and louder wanting my attention, the house never had that “just been cleaned” shine, dinner was whatever I could … Read More

Now that we are well and truly back into the school year and daily grind, it’s easy for parental guilt to sink in.We’re so busy with work, life and endless to-do lists, we’re exhausted, and playing with our kids is not always our top priority. And it shouldn’t always be,
